BiggDogg on Sports

BiggDogg would like you to see the world of college sports. The NCAA and CIAU are the two leagues in North America that most athletes play in at the collegiate level. The NCAA is the National Collegiate Athletic Association that is the college sports governing body in the United States. The CIAU(Canadian Inter-university Athletic Union)  is Canada's collegiate governing body.

Congratulations to the UConn Huskies on winning the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship in Tampa, Florida.
The CIAU is also having a national championship! The final four is held yearly in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The national championship was won by St. Mary's Huskies in an overtime win over Alberta.
University of Alberta Golden Bears won the CIAU Hockey Championships this season.

Since the lockout is over the NBA is trying to win back the fan support it lost. Their success has been minimal. The games are intense except the skill level is limited due to their fitness and number of games in a week.

Hockey the Coolest Game on Earth!
I am the biggest Nordiques fan ever! I was quite disappointed to say the least when they left Quebec City! They were on their way to the Stanley Cup! To bad it was in Colorado! Now I have to support the Oilers!

Down...Set...Hutt....Football comes to us from a variety of nations. Of course there is the NFL and the CFL. The other football league I would like to talk about are the Australian Football League. It used to be known as the Victoria Football League. The game is quite exciting to watch and play. It is played on an oval field with four goal posts at each end. My personal favorite team is the Essendon Bombers. Check the games out on ESPN.
The other football game is referred to as soccer here. It is the world's most popular game. Every four years there is the world cup. The last championship was won by France. Each country has the opportunity to make the world cup, however they have to play off to get there. Most countries have their own leagues. Most of the top players flock to two leagues. The English Premier League and Italian Super League. Two of the most successful clubs in these leagues are Manchester United and A.C. Milan. In North America we have Major League Soccer. After hosting the world cup in 1994, the United States had to develop a pro soccer league. Its success is growing slowly.
A new superstar is emerging out of England. He is Michael Owen. He is currently playing for Liverpool in the English Premier. Keep your eye on him and his career as it progresses. My favorite player to watch is Alexi Lalas. He is a member of the U.S. National Squad. I like his tough style of play.

Above is a picture of Michael Owen
taken at the World Cup in France.
To the right is a picture of Alexi Lalas.

The last sport I would like to talk about is baseball. America's past time seems to be rejuvenated since the strike season a few years ago. Much of this thanks can go to Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire for the great home run race with 'Big Mac' winning the race with 70 homers. This season is underway with spring training and the season soon to start. It will be tough to duplicate last year's wonderful season at the yard. Go Yankees!
